Michigan Quarterly Review reads submissions year round for the print journal. Writers are advised to inspect a back copy of the magazine (available for $4) or our archives before submitting work. Average turnaround time is six weeks.
Fiction and Essays: Manuscripts should be double-spaced. We typically run pieces that are a minimum of 1,500 words and a maximum of 7,000 words.
Poetry: Submissions, whether of one poem or several, should not exceed a total of eight to twelve pages.
Submissions by email or fax cannot be accepted and will not be read. If a manuscript is accepted for publication, we will ask for an electronic version (please make sure that we have your e-mail address). Writers wishing to submit from countries without reliable mail service may email us for permission to send electronic submissions.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed.
A self-addressed, stamped envelope must be enclosed for the return of the manuscript or for any reply. Authors who would like their manuscripts returned to them must include an envelope with sufficient postage and indicate in a cover letter that they want the manuscript returned. Manuscript pages are recycled unless the author has made it clear that they should be returned.

The MQR Blog does not currently accept unsolicited submissions for its blog, as essays and interviews are supplied by regular contributors. If, however, you have a pitch for a short series (approx. 3 posts), please contact MQR’s Blog & Social Media Editor, Rachel Farrell, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
