“The Weather Channel,” by Dan Gerber

Poetry by Dan Gerber from our Winter 2017 issue.

Men standing out in storms,
talking,
telling us how violent the wind is,
showing us they can still stand up to it,
though just barely,
telling us that we should stay inside,
that to do otherwise would be foolish,
we at home who are not experienced storm-standers.

Secretly,
we want to see this grizzled lover of Chaos
take flight—
not lost forever of course—
batted around just rudely enough
to be convinced of his own advice.
